Interesting Links
November 6th 2006 02:10
With exams at the moment, I'm pretty in the thick of it and don't have time for a full update this week. I can however deliver a few links that you might find interesting that I've come across in my travels.
http://www.stuartgreenbaum.com/nelson/index.html
This is a link to information on the recently written(2003) and staged(2005) major opera by Stuart Greenbaum titled Nelson. It commemorates the bi-centennary of Lord Horatio Nelson's death in 1805. It appears to be both an interesting work in a period when modern operas are relatively rare.
http://lphrc.org/Chant/
If you have ever wondered about the forms of musical notation which preceded those which we current use, this site gives a good quality translation of many of the figures found in Neumes, the notation used in Gregorian Chant music.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absolute_pitch
While Wikipedia can often be a mixed bag when it comes to scholarly writing, I found this explanation and examination of absolute(perfect) pitch to be interesting and well documented. Give it a read if you would like to learn more.
Sorry about the lack of a real update, and I'll be back next week.
